چکیده

This paper demonstrates a power supply noise reduction using on-board stubs. A quarter-length stub attached to the power supply line of an LSI chip works as a band-eliminate filter, and suppresses the power supply noise of the designed frequency. Preliminary experiments show that 87% of the designed frequency noise component is suppressed when stub patterns are written on a power supply area on a PCB board for a 1.25 GHz operating LSI. The results show the possibility of the stub onchip integration when the operating frequency of LSIs becomes higher and the stub length becomes shorter. key words: stub, on-board, power supply noise, di/dt noise, PRBS pattern

Low Dropout Based Noise Minimization of Active Mode Power Gated Circuit

Power gating technique reduces leakage power in the circuit. However, power gating leads to large voltage fluctuation on the power rail during power gating mode to active mode due to the package inductance in the Printed Circuit Board. This voltage fluctuation may cause unwanted transitions in neighboring circuits. In this work, a power gating architecture is developed for minimizing power in a...

Electromagnetic Bandgap (EBG) Structures Using Open Stubs to Suppress Power Plane Noise

We have developed a novel electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure for suppressing power plane noise that enables unit cell size to be miniaturized by using open stubs as shunt circuits. Since stub length determines the center frequencies of stopbands for this structure, reduced implementation area can be anticipated while maintaining stopbands at lower frequencies. Stopband frequencies were est...

Measuring Power Digitally with Numerical Analysis

In low-power systems, traditional power measurement techniques using Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs), amplifiers, and current sense resistors present a number of practical challenges; especially if one desires to monitor many components on a low power platform. This work introduces our novel digital method that attempts to minimize and/or eliminate the use of analog components while obtaini...

Analysis and Performance Evaluation of Noise-Reduction Transformer

The present paper deals with the analysis and development of noise-reduction transformer that has a filter function for conductive noise transmission. Two types of prototype noise-reduction transformers with two different output voltages are proposed. To determine an optimum design for the noise-reduction transformer, noise attenuation characteristics are discussed based on the experiments and ...

A Phase Noise Reduction Technique in LC Cross-coupled Oscillators with Adjusting Transistors Operating Regions

In this paper, an intuitive analysis of a phase noise reduction technique is done, and then a modified structure is proposed to achieve higher phase noise reduction than the original one. This method reduces the impact of noise sources on the phase noise by decreasing closed-loop gain in zero-crossings points and moving this high closed-loop gain to the non-zero-crossings points. This reduction...
